Our History

The Minority Engineering Program of Indianapolis (MEPI) was established  in 1986 with a goal to expose minority students within our community to key concepts related to STEM Careers. Students are encouraged to excel in their studies while placing emphasis on Math and Science.  MEPI’s concentrated programs provide a strong foundation for minority students who plan to enter into the Engineering or Information Technology fields.

Our Mission

The Minority Engineering Program of Indianapolis increases student knowledge, interest, and engagement related to STEM studies and professional fields; with an emphasis on engineering and information technology.

What we do

The goal of MEPI is to expose minority students, at an early age, to  the career opportunities available in engineering and information technology (IT). Students are encouraged to excel in their studies while placing emphasis on Math, Science, and English.  MEPI’s concentrated programs provide a good foundation for minority students who plan to enter the field of Engineering or Information Technology.  This action will expand the pool of talent from which Indianapolis area corporations will be able to select candidates.

President’s Message

The past year has been a time of transformation for the Minority Engineering Program of Indianapolis. We resumed live Saturday sessions after having to pivot to virtual programing due to the pandemic, we enhanced the grade level curriculums in an effort to keep pace with the exponential advancements and evolution of technology, and we transitioned several long tenured leadership positions on the MEPI board and advisory board.

I am excited to be the new president of the board of directors and I am committed to building on the MEPI legacy to increase student knowledge interest and engagement in STEM studies and professions. I would like to acknowledge and thank William Scott, past board president and Steve Gillman, past board fundraising chair.  Their tireless efforts have positioned the organization for future growth and success.

Past MEPI students that have graduated from college and are now STEM professionals are serving as members of the board, the advisory board, facilitators, banquet speakers, volunteers and even parents of current MEPI students. While this is evidence of our mission realized we must continue to work together and encourage our students to aspire to do their best, take advantage of opportunities and strive reach their full potential.

I am eager to engage and partner to advance MEPI to the next level focusing on providing leading edge STEM experiences, internships, scholarship access to corporate, business and alumni mentors. Together let’s build on the strong foundation and continue to make a lasting impact for MEPI in this program year and beyond.
